Description
How the new American security state in the U.S. co-opted the country’s prosecutors to systemically dismantle due process and the First Amendment online.
Toward a fuller understanding of the role of the Boogeyman in American society it helps to look at current trends in American politics, so a short course is provided in The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. American politics has been shaped by a world economy that has shifted dramatically toward inequality in the last 40 years, led by the United States, which has also developed a unique racial inequality, as explained in Economics 101, or Let Them Eat Cake. The hunt for the ultimate Boogeyman is ever present in America’s national security state, as found in Top Secret, The Blind Leading the Blind. The hunt has led to the need for censorship and the ostracizing of those who have committed expansive lists of what are deemed to be sexual crimes, as opposed to all other kinds of crime. This ultimate boogeyman and America’s past with it, is told in Censorship, Sex, Lies and Video-tapped. The arguments for where America is going are enlightening, found in Last Call, Heaven Can Wait. The means to get there are detailed in The List, or I Know What You Did Last Summer, and American Constitutional Reform, or Tempus Fugit. Finally, A Prairie State of Mindlessness, or Perfectly Dysfunctional Democracy, takes a look at how one of the fifty American states essentially lost its democracy to the dominance of party politics, shutting out the political voices of its own citizens, in a perfect example of democracy gone wrong.
Recent events show that Americans have a broken constitution, resulting in a broken, hyper-partisan legal and political system. The American economic system has created the greatest social inequality in history. The country has the world's largest system of surveillance and secrecy on the planet, feeding paranoia and distrust of the government, while making no one more secure. The internet censorship witch hunt is merely a microcosm of what these ills have wrought. But there is a way forward to revive our democracy.
